2010 ADA Call for Courses

Audiologists and other professionals are invited to submit instructional course proposals for ADA’s 2010 Convention, scheduled for November 4-6, 2010 in San Antonio, TX. The ADA Convention Committee will review all proposals and select a limited number of presentations that will provide an innovative educational program for the attendees. Because ADA members and convention attendees are mostly practice owners, or work in audiologist-owned practices, we are seeking practical content which is targeted to this audience, as well as to people who may be considering becoming practice owners. To that end, we have defined several audience groups that will have differing needs, and by gearing the content to these groups, we will enable the attendees to maximize their experiences.

ADA’s conventions are historically known for providing practical information that can be used immediately upon returning home from convention to positively impact member’s practices. These courses should not be used as a venue to promote specific commercial products or services.

ADA’s Program will be broken into four main categories: Practice Development/Business Tools, Diagnostics/Biomedical Research, Amplification/Rehabilitation/Counseling and Professional/Advocacy/Legal/Ethical Issues. Please indicate below the general content area(s) by checking the appropriate boxes, or by selecting 'other' and defining the area if not listed. You are not limited to these topic areas but rather are encouraged to be creative with your proposals. Interactive presentations or hands-on activities with the audience are encouraged, as appropriate.

Group I: Early Career/Student/Considering Practice Ownership – These can be students, new graduates, or more mature audiologists who have never been involved with practice ownership and want to acquire education and skills that will help them achieve this goal or decide if it is right for them. The group also includes new practice owners who are trying to grow their businesses and achieve viability.

Group II: Mid-Career – These are people with stable practices who want to increase their skills, grow their bottom line, diversify their practice offerings and/or revenue streams, or expand their presence in a community.

Group III: Late Career – “Seasoned veterans” who may wish to transition to a new role, develop an exit strategy, mentor younger professionals, and/or sell a practice.

Presentation Outline:

Provide a more detailed outline of your presentation, and briefly describe each of the topics you intend to cover in the presentation. Where possible, please address each of the following areas: (Limit 500 words.)

  • Statement of the topic or issue: State specifically what topic or issue you will be addressing during your session.
  • Description of activity, project, or solution: This is the core of your proposed presentation and might include such things as: historical background; participation expected from attendees; who was/is involved with the project; examples of what it took to analyze and define problems and solutions; methods used to work toward solutions, and so on.
  • Outcomes: Where applicable, present your outcomes and achievements. Did you accomplish what you set out to do? In addition to anecdotal evidence, include quantitative examples of how your project resolved a problem or issue. It's important to talk about the successes and failures, especially in respect to what you learned from either.
  • Importance or relevance to attendees and (where applicable) to other organizations. Attendees will want to know how the work you did will apply to them and their solutions. Describe ways in which other organizations might benefit from your findings.

Speakers are expected to provide their own laptops. All rooms will be set with a lectern microphone, a lavaliere microphone and an LCD projector and screen. By turning in this proposal, you give ADA permission to electronically post your biography, abstract and related materials on the ADA Web site and to publish them in printed ADA materials (conference marketing materials, participant handouts, electronic and printed proceedings, etc.). In addition, ADA reserves the right to edit biographies, abstracts and bullet points for consistency, style and grammar as necessary.

  1. I understand that speaking at the ADA convention is a privilege and that if my presentation is selected, it will be subject to the ADA 2010 Convention’s Speaker Guideline and Reimbursement Policy.
  2. The primary presenter must submit electronic handout materials or a Power Point® presentation to ADA by October 7, 2010, as all convention materials will be provided to registrants electronically prior to the convention.
  3. I agree not to promote specific commercial interests and understand that by doing so my future requests to return as a presenter may be declined if I violate this policy.
