Fellow Membership is open to audiologists who hold an Au.D. degree or credential (or are enrolled in an Au.D. program in a regionally accredited university), who dispense hearing aids as part of a rehabilitative practice and who hold a valid state license in audiology or its equivalent.
Associate membership is open to any individual who possesses a graduate degree in audiology or an allied profession and who supports the activities and goals of the ADA , but who does not meet any of the membership criteria for Fellowship. Associate members are non-voting members of the Academy.
ADA Student Membership is open to students currently enrolled in a full-time Au.D. program in a regionally accredited university, who support the activities of ADA, but are not eligible for Associate or Fellowship membership.
Individuals enrolled in an Au.D. distance learning program who hold a graduate degree in audiology are not eligible for student membership, but may be eligible for fellow or associate membership. (See Above)
Anyone who was a member of ADA prior to 1/01/2001 is eligible to renew membership or re-join ADA, regardless of academic degree.
Effective 1/1/01, all applicants are required to: 1) be enrolled in an Au.D. program or 2) have completed their Au.D. degree. This change in the By-Laws will, in no way, affect current members.
Requirements for new members will be phased in as follows:
Applicants without an Au.D. degree must be enrolled in a residential or distance learning program. In order to be a Fellow, one must still be a practicing audiologist with a license or its equivalent and must be actively engaged in the dispensing of hearing instruments.
All new applicants for fellow status must be graduates of a residential Doctor of Audiology program.
