The Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) Degree Program at ASHS is a distance education program for practicing audiologists. To be eligible, individuals must possess a master's or doctoral degree in audiology and have a minimum of four years of clinical experience. The program is designed for current practitioners who want to enhance their skills, knowledge and academic status while continuing to practice full-time. The program is outcomes-based, which requires the faculty to assess a candidates strengths and weaknesses and then design an appropriate course of study.
A customized educational program is offered to each practitioner based on evaluation of demonstrated competencies. The distance education Au.D. allows the broadly experienced, self-motivated practitioner to receive advanced standing based on an evaluation of existing competencies. There are 44 modules of instruction available: a complete description of the modules is provided in the Audiology Curriculum Guide.
The program integrates web and CD ROM-based instruction, video demonstrations, directed readings, clinical projects, and email or chat room interactions among students and between students and faculty. Examinations and projects will be completed at home. The program does not require relocation or a full-time presence on the main campus.
