    "headline": "State Licensure",
    "description": "State Licensure The primary purpose of professional regulation is consumer protection, which is performed at the state level through licensure laws. Audiology licensure is now required in all 50 states**. Each state establishes its own licensing Statutes, Rules, and Regulations. Many states still require a separate Hearing Aid Dispenser license for audiologists to dispense hearing aids. ADA encourages its members to advocate for legislative action in those states to include dispensing under the audiologist license and to do away with the unnecessary dual licensure. The following State Licensure table (below) is provided to assist audiologists in locating state licensing boards and to identify which states require dual licensure. It is always advisable to contact your state's licensure board for current licensure requirements. Model Licensing Law - Time for ChangeThere is a major trend for state audiology licenses to update their statutes to recognize and mandate the Au.D. degree as a requirement for all new licensees. State license laws are typically reviewed periodically, and it is essential for audiologists to actively advocate for requiring the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree as the minimum educational requirement for all first-time licensees. The ADA has developed a model license law to assist with such advocacy: STATE AUDIOLOGY AND HA LICENSE REQUIRED LICENSURE AGENCY AUDIOLOGY LICENSURE AGENCY HEARING AIDS Alabama No Visit Visit Alaska No Visit Visit Arizona No Visit Visit Arkansas No Visit Visit California No Visit Visit Colorado * Visit Visit Connecticut No Visit Visit Delaware No Visit Visit District of Columbia No Visit Visit Florida No Visit Visit Georgia No Visit Visit Hawaii No Visit Visit Idaho No Visit Visit Illinois No Visit Visit Indiana No Visit Visit Iowa * Visit Visit Kansas Yes Visit Visit Kentucky Yes Visit Visit Louisiana * * Visit Visit Maine No Visit Visit Maryland No Visit Visit Massachusetts * Visit Visit Michigan No Visit Visit Minnesota * No Visit Visit Mississippi No Visit Visit Missouri No Visit Visit Montana * Visit Visit Nebraska Yes Visit Visit Nevada No Visit Visit New Hampshire No Visit Visit New Jersey No Visit Visit New Mexico * No Visit Visit New York Yes Visit Visit North Carolina * Visit Visit North Dakota Yes Visit Visit Ohio * Visit Visit Oklahoma No Visit Visit Oregon No Visit Visit Pennsylvania No Visit Visit Rhode Island No Visit Visit South Carolina No Visit Visit South Dakota No Visit Visit Tennessee No Visit Visit Texas No Visit Visit Utah No Visit Visit Vermont No Visit Visit Virginia Yes Visit Visit Washington No Visit Visit West Virginia No Visit Visit Wisconsin No Visit Visit Wyoming * Visit Visit * Additional requirements must be met; see your state licensure board",
